Upper School Profile 2007-2008
Mission and History
The Cambridge School of Dallas (grades 5-12) is a Christ-centered, college preparatory, classical school. Its educational philosophy is
committed to “Academic Discipleship: Fostering a Love of Learning with a Passion for Jesus Christ.” Cambridge grew out of Logos
Academy which opened in 1996, matriculating its first senior class in 2002. Cambridge is a nondenominational, coeducational institution
and currently enrolls 112 students.
Curriculum
Cambridge takes average to above average students based on ISEE performance, places them in an above average curriculum and
seeks to maximize the potential of every student. The curriculum is normed to the standards of the College Board’s Advance Placement
program in its core subject areas. All students take AP courses, which are taught from the perspective of a Christian worldview. All
seniors take rhetoric and complete a senior tutorial, a course which requires them to present and defend a 15-page thesis before a
faculty panel. The program is summarized by the following core principles:
- Maximizing the potential of average to above average students
- Norming curriculum to objective standards of mastery
- Stressing fundamental beliefs through study of the Bible and the great tradition of historic Christianity
- Teaching curriculum from a Christian worldview
- Emphasizing persuasive speaking and writing
- Designing curriculum to assist students in admission to select and highly select colleges and universities
- Offering athletic, artistic, and extracurricular pursuits that develop natural abilities and talents as well as character and leadership skills
Faculty
Cambridge seeks master teachers. The faculty has extensive experience in teaching the Advanced Placement courses offered in the
curriculum. Of the full-time faculty members, two have doctorates, one is ABD, and seven have master’s degrees in their areas of
teaching. Student to faculty ratio is 6:1.
