THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL OF DALLAS PRESENTED AUTHOR DR. OS GUINNESS
Metroplex Dallasites were treated to a rare opportunity to hear noted author and speaker Dr. Os Guinness. Part of the Faith and Culture Series offered by The Cambridge School of Dallas, the lecture took place on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at 8 p.m. at the Fellowship Bible Church Dallas, 9330 North Central Expressway. The event was sponsored by Briggs Freeman Real Estate Brokerage; Martin L. Koonsman, M.D.; and Restoration Park Cities, Inc., Cathy Koonsman. The lecture was free.
Dr. Guinness spoke to a rapt audience for almost an hour. He addressed Serving God’s Purposes in Our Generation and Challenges to Faith in the Global Era, then answered questions. Within those topics, he discussed the damaging erosions of faith, the great questions of our time, options for the public square, temptations for global elites and requirements for personal integrity.
At a dinner prior to his main address, Dr. Guinness also spoke about freedom of our country and made the statement, “The framers of the Constitution were of different faiths, but they all agreed on one necessary triangle: virtue, faith and freedom. Each of these elements of the triangle was viewed to be dependent upon the other in order to sustain freedom.” Dr. Guinness stated that the same holds true today./p>
Dr. Os Guinness was born in China during World War II where his parents were medical missionaries. He remained there until 1951 when the communists forced most foreigners to leave. Educated in England with a D.Phil in social sciences from Oxford University, Dr. Guinness has been a guest scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies as well as the Brookings Institute. He is currently a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum, a seminar-style forum for senior executives and political leaders that engages the leading ideas of our day in the context of faith. His latest work, Unspeakable: Facing up to evil in a world of genocide and terror, was published in 2005.
“We are extremely please to be a sponsor of this event,” said Robbie Briggs of Briggs Freeman. “Coming from a context of faith, Dr. Guinness always provides a perspective of truth within today’s popular culture, and his words should provide guidance and support to all parents.”
Since 2002, The Cambridge School of Dallas has offered a classical, Christian education to families in the Metroplex area. This education (grades five through twelve) combines the rigors of a classical education with spiritual guidance in the Christian tradition. This is the same kind of education that formed the minds and spirits of people like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo, Sir Winston Churchill and scores of other extraordinary men and women throughout the centuries.
