The Freshman Orientation Trip invites the rising freshman class to look anew upon the world and their place in it. Why does a Christ-centered, classical education offer not merely one brand of education among many but also the only truly liberal (that is, free-making) education? Why does a Christ-centered, classical education offer not only one effective choice for college preparation among many but also the one kind of education that forms the mind to receive truth, the heart to find the happiness it seeks in love, and the soul to be most truly itself—in harmony with itself, its Creator, and reality? These questions, which breathe life into the students’ studies and relationships throughout their tenure in the Upper School, are explored in conversation among themselves and with the faculty. The trip thus forges bonds both horizontally and vertically.
