Class of 2009 Ten Year Reunion

Over the holiday break, some alumni from the Class of 2009 got together for their ten year reunion!

Katie Little, Class of 2010

Katie joins Samford’s A Cappella Alumni Choir virtually singing “Beautiful Savior” together.

It is a tradition of the Samford A Cappella choir to sing this arrangement of Beautiful Savior at the end of concerts. Because of the long humming passages, the singers must stagger breathe. They hold pinky fingers with the person next to them and squeeze when they are about to breathe so that the music is not interrupted by many singers breathing at the same time. With the COVID crisis interrupting our lives so profoundly, alumni members from the acappella choir have come together to share this beautiful piece of music in a virtual setting, to bring some hope during this confusing time. Forty-six alumni members are featured in this video rendition of the song. We thank everyone for their participation and hope this music brings peace to all who hear it.

Jay Denton, Class of 2005

This is a trailer for music and a documentary released by Endure, Jay’s music projects enterprise.  He wrote and recorded music with Syrian refugees in Beirut, putting together an album with songs of hope and, Lord willing, healing.

Emily Perkins Phillips, Class of 2009

Before COVID-19 social distancing, Emily and a friend did a series of three mini photo shoots. Each session features a floral hairpiece inspired by specific spring blooms (daffodils, cherry blossoms, and red bud trees) and then photographed with those flowers. Emily paired each set of images with a poem, two by Wordsworth and one by Frost. The first shoot is linked below and features Cambridge alumna Emma Grimes.

Emily wanted to share the Daffodil session because it is paired with a poem that was part of the Cambridge curriculum when she was a student — I Wandered Lonely As a Cloud by William Woodsworth.
